The third destination we will explore is the Maldives. The Maldives is a nation positioned in the Indian ocean. The Maldives is comprised of over 1190 islands and sandbanks each of which are covered with clear turquoise waters. Within these waters is a reef structure housung spectacular underwater animal life. The worlds first underwater cabinet meeting was held in the Maldives. For an island country, the threat of Global Warming is extremely prominent, even causing certain islands to be evacuated due to rising water levels. For this reason, the President of the Maldives along with other officials met right at the bottom of the ocean to discuss sustainability.
The Maldives houses incredible underwater life. Throughout the year, the coral reefs are inhabited by countless species of dolphins, whales as well as the Whale Shark, which is the worlds largest fish.
All citizens of this country must be Muslim, as stated by the constitution which clearly forbids following any other religion.
Unlike most places around the world, the Maldives considers the weekend to be Friday and Saturday and not Saturday and Sunday.
